Kingston HyperX Savage Vs Fury SSD

So, you are already familiar with the Kingstone brand. Perhaps you have ever used the company’s USB flash drive devices or memory cards, and you have immediately fallen in love to the performance and quality. Kingston’s models are also usually affordable and budget-friendly. Now, in the search for the best SSD device for your available budget, you have put Kingston HyperX Savage and Fury SSD into your consideration. Between these two models, the Fury SSD is usually a little bit cheaper than the Savage. So, is the Savage really so much better? Let us see below.

Design and Capacity Choices
Just like most modern SSD products nowadays, both Kingston HyperX Savage and Kingston HyperX Fury come in the 2.5” ultra-compact and ultra-lightweight form factor. Nevertheless, the two products have different looks. Kingston HyperX Fury SSD comes with a sticker on top, predominantly colored in black and white. On the other hand, Kingston HyperX Savage indeed looks much more premium and elegant. The red embossed style resembles a large ‘H’ or ‘X’, featuring the HyperX name in the middle and the Savage name right below. Both Kingston HyperX Fury and Kingston HyperX Savage are available in 120GB, 240GB, and 480GB, but the Savage has added the 960GB capacity choice as well.

Performance and Features
The Fury SSD is powered by the SandForce SF-2281 controller with SATA Rev. 3.0, but is backward-compatible with SATA Rev. 2.0. It offers up to 500 MB/s on both read and write speeds. The performance is certainly better than HDDs, and is satisfying enough to keep you in the game. However, if you are seeking something higher than just good, then Kingston HyperX Savage’s quad-core Phison PS3110-S10 controller can give you that. The engine is much more powerful, allowing for improved performance and speed. In general, Kingston HyperX Savage is capable of providing up to 560 MB/s read and 530MB/s write speeds (though the 120GB variant actually has a lower maximum write speed). In addition, you can purchase Kingston HyperX Savage with the kit bundle that includes everything needed to get started. The bundle features a USB 3.0 enclosure for transferring data from 2.5” hard drives, a 2.5” – 3.5” adapter for mounting in a desktop environment, the SATA data cable, the multi-bit screwdriver, and the Acronis data migration software.
