Design and Capacity
Both Crucial MX300 and Samsung 850 Evo have been designed as internal Solid State Drive (SSD) devices. They come in the 2.5” form factor. Crucial MX300 comes with a silver body and is available in four capacity choices, which consist of 275 GB, 525 GB, 1 TB, and 2 TB. On the other hand, Samsung 850 Evo comes with a black body. There is a small white arrow on the top surface that indicates where the connector is located. The model is available in several capacity choices: 250 GB, 500 GB, 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB. Generally, a larger capacity is almost always better, as it allows you to utilize the storage to contain more data and for a longer time.
Performance and Features
Crucial MX300 has satisfied many people with its performance. It is powered by the Micron 3D TLC NAND technology and features the Dynamic Write acceleration for faster saves and file transfers. For handling small files and casual purposes, it is certainly reliable. However, the performance of TLC SSDs may drop significantly if you often handle lots of large files.
On the other hand, Samsung 850 Evo has been packed with Samsung V-NAND which is based on MLC NAND technology. As the effect, Samsung 850 Evo indeed comes with much faster performance. It is much faster in both sequential and random operations, though you may not immediately notice the difference compared to Crucial MX300. However, if you regularly work with lots of large files, such as photos, videos, and audio files, you will then greatly benefit from the much more consistent and reliable performance.
