Samsung 830 Vs 840

Samsung, SSD Vs SSD

Solid State Drives are still very much in their infancy. At this point in time the high cost per megabyte for storage when compared to HDDs can make choosing a drive a difficult experience. Samsung have, over the past few of years produced two very strong performers in all tests, the 830 and 840. When comparing the two, one must ask: Samsung 830 vs 840 – which is better?

Samsung 830 Vs 840

The 830 SSD was released back in 2011, making it a dated product. When released, it was viewed by critics as a high quality entry to the market that was dangerous to its competitors. At the time it outperformed most of its competitors, but fell down on application speed in some tests. The 840 released a little over a year later, and that time was viewed as one of the fastest drives on the market. Both drives are a little dated now, but the 840 still remains an option for those after an inexpensive SSD drive to add to their new build or as an upgrade for an existing PC.

When compared, there really is no comparison between the two drives. The 830 is an older drive, and when comparing statistics, the 840 comes up fastest in every single test, from reading to writing and mixed read/write tests. Despite its age, the 840 is still at the fore of the top performers in its price range. To add to this, the 840 also consumes less power at peak running, owing to its 21nm architecture when compared to the 830’s 27nm architecture. The 840 is also considerably cheaper, with the current RRP of $172 when compared to the 830 which sold for over $250 before being discontinued.
