Kingston HyperX Predator Vs Samsung SM951

Kingston, Samsung

Do you want to enjoy the fullest power of an SSD storage device? If so, consider getting an SSD with a PCIe connection. SATA-based SSDs tend to experience the bottleneck effect of the SATA interface. Meanwhile, PCIe is able to transmit data at a higher rate than SATA. So, obviously, PCIe SSDs are much faster than SATA SSDs. Now, there are two models popular on the market right now: Kingston HyperX Predator and Samsung SM951. Each of the two models comes with the M.2 PCIe interface. Which one should you choose?

Design and Capacity Choices
Kingston HyperX Predator and Samsung SM951 have slightly different designs. Kingston HyperX Predator comes with the M.2 PCIe interface with the Half-Height Half-Length (HHHL) adapter. Such design is very innovative and convenient, allowing you to easily fit the device into both new and old motherboards. Kingston HyperX Predator is powered by a Marvell controller and is available in 240 GB, 480 GB, and 960 GB variants. On the other hand, Samsung SM951 has been designed with just an M.2 interface. So, while it can work with most motherboards, it may not be compatible with some. It is not compatible with MacBook, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and Mac Pro. So, make sure whether your computer can take it in or not before deciding. Samsung SM951 is available in three capacity choices: 128 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB.

Performance and Features
Both Kingston HyperX Predator and Samsung SM951 are based on the MLC NAND technology to deliver exceptional performance levels. However, Kingston HyperX Predator ‘only’ has up to 1400 MBps read speed and 1000 MBps write speed. While those are astonishing numbers already, Samsung SM951 boasts significantly higher speeds. Featuring a 256 MB LPDDR2 DRAM buffer memory, Samsung SM951 is able to deliver up to 2150 MBps read speed and 1500 MBps write speed. It is indeed much more powerful. It can handle huge loads of data and files quickly and effortlessly. In addition, Samsung SM951 also has better reliability than Kingston HyperX Predator. Samsung SM951 comes with 1,500,000 hours MTBF, whereas Kingston HyperX Predator comes with 1,000,000 hours MTBF. Samsung SM951 comes with APM and L1.2 Power Saving Mode, End-to-End Data Protection, TRIM Command Support, RoHS Compliance, and Halogen-Free Compliance.
